The Henning boys’ basketball team won their ninth straight game on Monday night, snapping a seven game winning streak by Ashby in the process as the Hornets handed the Arrows an 89-53 loss in Henning.

“Ashby was a bit short handed tonight, playing without Jacob Cook,” noted Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “They are young and very talented. They are going to be a very dangerous team down the stretch and in the years to come. Our kids came out early and set the tone. We did a nice job creating some chaos with our defense and we moved the ball exceptionally well on offense. We are tough to guard when we play the right way.”

Leaders for Henning were Parker Fraki (20 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists), Isaac Fisher (16 points, 6 assists), Blaine Wallevand (16 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds) and Blake Wallevand (10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals). Luke Bjorklund added 8 points and 3 assists.  Henning shot 56% (34-60) from the field, hitting 73% (25-34) of their two-point shots and 34% (9-16) of their 3’s.

Thursday the Hornets (16-1) start their second round of Park Region Conference games, hosting Pillager.

Ashby was led in scoring by Hunter Norby who netted 15 points.  Torin Olson and Jaden Norby each had 12.  Ashton Ecker and Jaden Norby shared the rebounding lead gathering six boards apiece.

“The Hornets were better than us in all phases of the game tonight,” assessed Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “You don't have much margin for error against them.  They make you pay for every mistake.”

Ashby (11-4) will play a non-conference game at New York Mills on Tuesday night.
