Fergus Falls hosted St. Cloud Apollo on Thursday night in a Central Lakes boys’ basketball contest and handed the Eagles their first CLC loss in overtime.  The Otters led 33-25 at the half and upped their lead to 12 in the second half before Apollo caught them at 72-72 at the end of regulation.  The Otters outscored the Eagles 9-4 in the extra period to take an 81-76 win.

Fergus Falls led 61-49 with just under six minutes remaining in the game, however, St. Cloud Apollo turned up the defensive intensity and scored 7 straight points off three consecutive Otter turnovers.  With the game tied at 70-70 the Eagles picked off the inbounds pass and took a 72-70 lead on a basket by Thomas Diew.  The Otters beat the press and setup a three-point look for Brock Kotschevar.  Kotschevar was fouled as he released the shot and went to the line with a chance to send the Otters off the court with the win.  He missed his first of three foul shots, but was able to regroup and knock down the next to put the game into overtime.

Dominic Aguilar, who was 8-for-8 on free throws in the second half, scored four of the Otters OT points and finished tied with Chance Fazio with 23 points on the night.  Aguilar also had 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.  Fazio pulled down a team high 18 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.  Kotschevar joined them in double figures with 11.

The Otters made 28-of-41 free throws in the game, including 20-of-28 in the second half and overtime.  Apollo made 11-of-19 free throws on the night.

Chang Hoth was on fire from beyond the arc for the Eagles, making eight 3’s on the night, four in each half.  Hoth was the top scorer in the game with 35 points.  Diew added 15 and Puoch Doboul contributed 11 points.

Fergus Falls (11-4, 6-2 CLC) will travel to Sartell on Tuesday night.
