Spartan Men Lose to Riverland on Sunday

The M State Men’s Basketball team struggled in Austin on Saturday as they fell behind 41-29 at the half and wound up on the short end of a 101-62 score against Riverland Community College.  The loss puts the Spartans at 7-10 overall and 1-3 in the MCAC Southern Division.

Riverland hit 50.6% (39-77) of their field goal attempts and made 14-of-18 free throws on the day.  They also commanded the boards with 57 total rebounds and 20 on the offensive end, while the Spartans managed just 33.

Riverland also had four players in double figures, led by 19 from Terrell Smith and 12 by Montrell JacobsTate Hebrink and Nyagoa Obany each scored 11 with Obany completing a double-double by gathering 13 rebounds.

M State only made 33.3% (22-66) of their shots and hit just 22% (9-41) of their three-point attempts.  Nic Pearson had a team high 16 points and Alex Hendricks scored 14 off the bench. Renell Edwards added 12 and Zakaria Zaid had 10 points and 9 rebounds for the Spartans.

The next game for the Spartans is a road game at St. Cloud Technical and Community College on Wednesday night.
