Fergus Falls took a 36-19 halftime lead on Tuesday night in Hawley and went on to defeat the Nuggets by the score of 63-36 in a battle of Section 8AA girls’ basketball teams.
The Otters were led by Ellie Colbeck (18 points, 6 rebounds) and Tori Ratz (14 points, 5 rebounds). Gretchen Davis had 8 points and Sabrina Fronning finished with 7 points and 5 steals. Carlie Meis led the Otters with 4 assists.
“Our defensive intensity was tremendous from the start,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Brad Strand. “We took Hawley out of what they were trying to do.”
Abigail Rux led Hawley with 8 points. Paige Thompson, who scored 28 points against the Otters in their Holiday Tournament championship game on December 28, was held to just 5 points.
Fergus Falls won the JV game 39-32, led by Logan Strom with 12 points and Anna Anderson with 10. The Otters won the C game 33-19 with Cyntreya Lockett scoring 10 points.
Fergus Falls (13-1) will play Roseau at Concordia College in Moorhead on Saturday night at six o’clock.
