The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team took a 39-26 halftime lead and defeated Rothsay 63-50 in a Little Eight Conference contest on Tuesday night at the Bill Rose Gymnasium in Rothsay.

“After a disappointing loss at Lake Park Audubon on Monday night, we headed to Rothsay for our 3rd game in 4 days,” reported HLA Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “The team responded well. We got to play a few more guys and work on some situational things tonight, which was good.”

Zeke Ihrke finished with 13 points, Micah Foss with 11, Joel Quam and Ev Gould with 9 apiece and Thomas Zwiers with 8. Five other players scored for the Comets. Foss led the team with 4 assists. Thomas had 10 rebounds and Micah Foss finished with 9.

“Unfortunately, we finished the night with 21 turnovers,” said Coach Garvin. “Something we're going to have to fix quickly if we want to be a dangerous playoff team.”

Rothsay was led by Colby Larson with 16 points and 4 rebounds, and Ethan Curtis with 9 points.

Hillcrest (4-6) will play at Battle Lake on Friday.

Rothsay (1-13) has back-to-back home games with Underwood on Friday and Lake Park-Audubon on Saturday.
