The Breckenridge Cowboys defeated Pelican Rapids by a score of 77-74 in overtime on Tuesday night in Breckenridge. The Cowboys led 34-31 at the half and the game was tied at 68-68 at the end of regulation.

Leading scorers for the Cowboys were Jonah Christensen with 27, Cooper Yaggie with 11, and Tyson Piechowski and Anthony Conzemius added 9 apiece. Leading in rebounds were Christensen with 12, Piechowski with 8, and Conzemius with 6.

"Over the last few weeks, we have emphasized taking care of the basketball, execution, and dominating the glass, three items that the guys did a fantastic job of this evening,” commented Breckenridge Assistant Coach Derek Grahn. “Pelican is a very tough team with a lot of talented ball players. We showed a lot of guts in this game with a lot of our guys dealing with illnesses and being banged up physically. We also did a great job down the stretch of hitting some big free throws hitting five in the overtime period. On Friday, we travel to Hawley to take on another good HOL opponent."

Pelican Rapids was led by Logan Fahje with 23 points.  McHale Korf added 18 and Jayden Rutherford contributed 15.

“Breckenridge was the tougher team tonight as they made the hustle plays and got defensive stops when we weren’t able to,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud.  “We had a really difficult time handling their inside game as they really took it to us in the paint.”

The Vikings (10-4) had their five game winning streak snapped with the loss.  They will host Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Thursday night.

The Cowboys take a 6-7 record into their Friday contest at Hawley.
