Hillcrest outscored Park Christian 49-21 in the second half to overcome a 38-25 halftime deficit on the way to a 74-59 victory over the Falcons on Saturday in Fergus Falls.

“Our boys played like young men on Saturday night,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin.  “We started out fairly even with Park, but fouls, again, plagued us. We committed 13 fouls in the first half slowing down any kind of rhythm we might hope to have and putting Park at the free throw line far too many times. I don't think our effort was particularly concerning, but it hurts us when Micah Foss is on the bench for any extended period of time as he was tonight.”

Hillcrest shot 52% from the field and made 47% (8/17) of their three-point attempts.  The Comets also assisted on 21 made baskets on the night.  Leaders for the Comets were Thomas Zwiers (28 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks), Evan Gould (14 points, 7 assists, 2 steals), Micah Foss (12 points, 5 assists, 4 steals) and Zeke Ihrke (11 points, 2 assists).

“In the second half, the energy was good and disciplined,” stated Coach Garvin. “Joel Quam got us started off forcing the ball handler into a turnover, resulting in an easy layup. On the next possession, Joel hit a transition 3 and the following possession we got a stop and Zeke Ihrke hit a three; it seemed we had all the momentum from that point on. We scored 49 points in the second half and held Park to 21, only committed 4 turnovers and 4 fouls. The boys played very well together.”

Hillcrest (3-5) will play three road games next week, beginning Monday against Lake Park-Audubon, going to Rothsay on Tuesday and finishing the week at Battle Lake on Friday.
