The Barnesville Trojans used a late 20-7 scoring run to blow open a tie game in defeating Badger/Green Bush/Middle River by the score of 80-67 on Friday night.

The host team had a great start to the game as they opened a 22-8 lead before the Trojans went on a 29-17 run to end the half making the score 39-37 BGMR at the break.

Adam Tonsfeldt was the catalyst for Barnesville the entire night as the Trojans fought through foul trouble the whole game.  Hunter Zenzen fouled out early in the second half with Kaden Zenzen joining him with less then three minutes to play.  Both teams shot a combined 70 free throws with the Trojans shooting 40 of them as the game lacked any fluidity.

Tonsfeldt and Blake Torfin played the majority of the second half with four fouls, but the Trojans would not wilt.  With the score tied at 60, Tonsfeldt would net a hoop and a foul with K. Zenzen adding a layup followed by another one from Tonsfeldt that made the score 67-60.

After a Gators layup, Kaden Zenzen would tally a conventional three-point play with Tonsfeldt adding a free throw, followed by a free throw from Matt Samuelson and two from Torfin to extend the lead to double-digits.  It would be a free throw contest the rest of the game as the Trojans would go on to win by the score of 80-67.

“Another great win today as we had many players step up because of foul trouble to help in the victory,” said Head Coach Chad Suter.  “We dug ourselves a hole early and had to fight back by the half.  It was a back and forth game the entire second half until the last five minutes when we broke the game open.  Our role players were huge as we were in severe foul trouble.  They battled on both ends of the floor and were instrumental in us getting the victory.”

Tonsfeldt finished the game with 28 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and a steal with Kaden Zenzen tallied 15 points and seven rebounds, as both players combined to go 18-24 from the free throw line.

Torfin added 13 points, eight rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot to go along with two defensive charges, while Samuelson chipped in seven points and five rebounds.  Hunter Zenzen scored six points and grabbed two boards in limited time due to foul trouble with Max Olson adding six points and two steals.  Ryan Rustad chipped in three points with Cam Heng adding two points, three boards, three assists and two steals to help the Trojans to the victory.

Barnesville’s record now stands at 8-2 on the season.
