The Battle Lake girls’ basketball team won a Little Eight Conference game over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Friday night.  Grace VanErp scored a game high 17 points to lead the lady Battlers to a 42-28 win over the lady Comets.

Makenna Tysdal added 8 points and 6 rebounds for Battle Lake.  Halie Johnson contributed 7 points and 9 rebounds, Ady Tysdal had 7 points and 7 boards, and Tessa Kortlever chipped in with 9 rebounds.

“We had a nice defensive game tonight,” said Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  “Early on both teams were struggling to score, but we were able to get a small lead midway through the half.  Late in the half, the Comets would have a run and close the gap to 20-16 at halftime.  In the second half, Grace VanErp scored 10 of her game high 17 points to help us out pace the Comets, 22-12 in the period.”

Leaders for Hillcrest were Mackenzie Foss (8 points, 8 rebounds), Anna Rasmussen (5 points, 6 rebounds), Molly McGuire (5 points, 5 rebounds) and Cassy Twedt (5 points, 5 rebounds).

Battle Lake (4-8) has won three of their last four games and will host Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Tuesday night.

Hillcrest (0-8) will host Park Christian School on Saturday at 3:30pm.  The game with Battle Lake began a stretch of seven straight home games for the Comets.
