The West Central Area Lady Knights hosted the Brandon-Evansville Chargers on Tuesday night in a section and conference match-up.  It was a battle all night between two teams trying to solidify their identities and gain ground in the section.

The game was back and forth until 2:40 left in the first half, and that is when the Knights went on an 11 to 3 run to lead at halftime 36-27.  The Chargers came out in the second half ready to go and cut the lead to 1 in four minutes of play 36-35.  The Knights responded by increasing the lead to double digits.  The Chargers would not give in and battled back.  The game ended with some late free-throws to secure the win for the Knights 61-55.

The Lady Knights were led by Lexi Bright with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist.  Claire Stark played strong tonight and had 14 points, 9 rebounds and a steal.  Hailey Bennett and Teagan Nelson each had 6 points on the night.  Nelson added 5 rebounds and 4 steals.  Bennett added 4 rebounds, a steal and an assist.  Brynn Fernholz added 3 points, 3 steals and a rebound.  Kaitlyn Hansen chipped in 3 points, 2 steals and an assist.  Liz Rustan had 2 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal.  Kennedy Ulrich had 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist.  Kaylyn Ulrich had 1 point, 2 rebounds and an assist.  Brooke Anderson ripped a rebound on the night.

“Tonight we played extremely well in spurts and overcame emotions throughout, and that is why we were victorious,” said WCA Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “Teagan Nelson and Claire Stark came up big when we needed them the most.  Kaitlyn Hansen hit a 3 in a critical moment.  This win was the ultimate team win, because it took everyone together doing the little things to walk away with a win.”

The Knights are now 8-4.  They will host Hancock on Friday night.

Brandon-Evansville (7-4) will play at Parkers Prairie on Friday night and at Hawley on Saturday.
