Knights shoot the lights out in Hancock

The West Central Area Knights hit 13-25 threes and 28-55 field goals along with a suffocating defense in a 73-44 win over the Hancock Owls.  The Knights led 39-18 at halftime.  They dominated the boards 36-25 and only had 4 turnovers while forcing the Owls into 17.

Knight Coach Kraig Hunter said, “We were very strong with the ball and were able to find the open guy consistently against a very good defensive team in Hancock.  Our guys were up for the challenge and have the mentality that if they try to take away one guy, we have multiple guys that can score. I was very proud of our defensive intensity and rebounding determination as well.”

Leaders for the Knights were Gage Staples with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists; Grant Beuckens had 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals; Tate Christenson had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists; Jacob Bright had 9 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals, along with 3 rebounds; Blake Koloski had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists; Jack VanKempen had 4 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists, and 5 blocked shots; Ryder Staples had 2 points, 3 assists, and 1 rebounds; Xander Bontjes had 2 points.

The Knights defense held Hancock to 13-45 shooting and 7-21 on threes. The Owls made 11-18 free throws.  Leading scorers for the Owls were Daniel Milander with 11, Preston Rohloff with 9, Colton Crowell with 7, Matt Thompson with 5, Adam Shaw with 5, Kody Berget 3, Luke Joos 2, and John Kellenberger 2.

The Knights are now 9-1 and will have another conference game in Wheaton on Friday night.
