Fergus Falls erupted for eight goals on Tuesday night as they blanked Detroit Lakes 8-0 in high school girls’ hockey at the Community Arena in Fergus Falls. The Otters scored 3 first period goals and added five more in the second period as they finished with 50 shots on goal, compared to just 9 for DL.

Maddie Hulter’s unassisted goal at 2:19 of the first period gave the Otters an early 1-0 lead. Thirty-nine seconds later Piper Andrews made it 2-0 off a pass from Marilyn Karsnia. With just two minutes remaining in the first period, Fergus Falls increased their lead to 3-0 on a goal from Jade Zierden, assisted by Ellie Andersen.
Andrews netted her second goal of the night on the power play at 2:05 of the second period, assisted by Zierden and Chloe Nelson. Desi Maack scored 43 seconds later from Nelson, giving the Otters a 5-0 lead. Hulter scored her second of the game from Hope Goepferd at 6:57 of the second. Ellie Andersen finished the scoring with a pair of goals, assisted by Goepferd and Zierden at 16:09, and assisted by Hulter with just 28 seconds remaining in the period.
The Otters will take a 9-10 record into their road game at Thief River Falls on Thursday.
