The Underwood boys’ basketball team hit the road to battle the Bertha-Hewitt Bears on Friday night.  After taking a 36-22 halftime lead, the Rockets were outscored 31-16 over the final 18 minutes as Bertha-Hewitt recorded a 53-52 victory.

“We played a really solid first half of basketball tonight on both ends of the court, giving a good lead heading to the second half,” said Head Coach Evan Meece of the Rockets.  “The first half of the second half we maintained that lead and then we allowed Bertha to slowly creep back into the game.  We couldn't close it out in the final minutes committing too many turnovers and not finishing at the free throw line. I hand it to Bertha for making adjustments that we did not make in order for them to get back in the game and secure their victory.  Looking back, there were some situations where I, as the coach, could have made different choices as well to help us win this game.”

Underwood was led by Canaan Kugler and Krosby Aasness with 14 points each.  Winston Heifort added 13 points.

Austin Bauch and Jared Kirscht were in double figures for the Bears, with 14 and 13 points, respectively.  Kole Weishalla and Ethan Wachlin added 8 points apiece and Luke Sakry contributed 7.

Underwood (1-7) will host Ortonville on Saturday afternoon, while Bertha-Hewitt (1-5) entertains Sebeka on Tuesday night in their next contest.
