Alexandria Tops Fergus Falls Boys in Overtime

The Alexandria boys’ basketball team posted a 61-56 overtime victory over Fergus Falls on Friday night, improving their season record to 7-3 and running their Central Lakes Conference mark to 5-1.  Fergus Falls fell to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the CLC.

Alexandria led 26-19 when Fergus Falls scored 9 straight points to take a 28-26 lead.  An old fashioned 3-point play from Carrson Jones put the Cardinals in front, 29-28 at the half.  In the second half, Fergus Falls took a 42-38 lead, however, Alexandria rattled off ten straight points to take a 48-38 advantage.  The Otters battled back to tie the game at 52-52 at the end of regulation, forcing overtime.  A three-pointer by Colton Roderick gave the home team a 3-point lead in the first minute of the extra period and the Cardinals went on to outscore the Otters 9-4 to earn the victory.

Roderick led the Cardinals with 16 points.  He was joined in double digits by Erik Hedstrom with 13 and Jones with 11.  Alexandria made 8 3’s in the game and hit 11-of-17 free throws.

Fergus Falls post player Chance Fazio recorded a double-double with 25 points on 12-of-17 shooting, and 10 rebounds.  He also had 3 blocked shots.  Dominic Aguilar had 11 points and 4 assists.  Cody Norgren contributed 7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, and Ethan Olson had 5 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Fergus Falls will host Detroit Lakes on Tuesday and St. Cloud Tech on Thursday.

Alexandria has a road game at Little Falls on Tuesday and a home game against Sartell on Thursday.
