The Battle Lake girls’ basketball team earned their third win of the season on Friday night when they beat the Rothsay Tigers, 49-48 in overtime.

“The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with some big three point shots from Jenna Fabre and Jayna Gronewold, but we were able to cut into the lead and tied the game at 14 midway through the half,” said Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  “By the break, we were able to take a small 28-25 lead behind the scoring from our seniors Halie Johnson and Makenna Tysdal, 9 and 7 points, respectively, for the half.  In the second half we were able to hold Fabre to only one free throw, but Gronewold put up 9 of her game high 15 in the period. Late in the half, down 2 points, Halie Johnson put in a short jumper to tie the game at 46.  In the extra period, the Tigers would score only 2 points and Makenna Tysdal's basket and free throw would be the difference.”

Johnson scored 12 points to lead the Battlers and Tysdal added 11 points.  Grace VanErp had 13 rebounds and 5 assists.

"It was an exciting atmosphere tonight, as both teams put it all out there,” noted Marso.

Gronewold and Fabre had 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Tigers.
