Colbeck Scores 36 Points to Lead Otters Past Nuggets

Ellie Colbeck buried 7 3-point field goals, including 5 in the second half, scoring 36 points to lead the Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team to a 65-55 win over the Hawley Nuggets to claim the Fergus Falls girls’ basketball holiday classic championship.

The Otters made 12 three’s in the game with Carlie Meis and Sabrina Fronning hitting two each.  Fronning was the only other player in double figures, finishing with 15 points.

Colbeck’s line included 7 assists, 5 steals and 4 rebounds.  Fronning pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists. Tori Ratz also had 3 assists and Paige Pearson gathered six boards.  Colbeck and Fronning were named to the All-Tournament team.

Paige Thompson had a big night for Hawley, scoring 28 points, 22 of them in the first half, including a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer that gave the Nuggets a 34-31 halftime advantage.  Abbi Rux scored all 9 of her points in the second half.  Thompson and Rux were selected to the All-Tournament team.

Fergus Falls is now 9-1 with nine consecutive wins.  They will play at Bemidji on Friday night.
