Pelican Rapids advanced to the championship game of the Pelican Rapids Holiday Tournament when they handed the Underwood Rockets an 80-51 loss on Friday.

McHale Korf scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures.  Logan Fahje had 17, Logan Petznick 13 and Jayden Rutherford 10.

“We finished the first half on a nice run to build our lead up to double digits at halftime, and we did a good job of extending the lead in the first couple of minutes of the second half,” reported Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “Overall we shot the ball well as we made thirteen threes on the night with a lot of those coming off of good ball movement. We still have some things to work on defensively but we were pleased with the effort of the guys coming off the break.”

Underwood was led by 17 points from Winston Heifort and 10 from Braden Thorson.

“We just couldn't keep up with the pace that the Vikings wanted to play tonight,” said Underwood Head Coach Evan Meece.  “They did a great job of moving the ball around and creating shots for each other.  They were lights out from shooting behind the arc and we got tired and weren't able to contest every shot.  We did a nice job offensively of working the ball to our posts to get a good look down low, but just weren't able to stop them on the defensive end tonight.”

The Vikings will now play West Central Area at 2:30pm in the championship game of the boys’ tournament, while Underwood battles Warroad in the third place game at 11:00am.
