The Menahga Braves dropped a pair of boys’ basketball games, losing to New York Mills 75-62 on Friday night and then fell to Nevis by the score of 62-48 on Tuesday as their record evened out at 2-2.

“Shooting woes plagued us the last couple of games,” stated Menahga Head Coach Zach Kaiser. “In New York Mills, we started off slow with turnovers and missed opportunities from close range. We also weren't able to stretch out their defense and knock down from outside. Mills' defense made us uncomfortable and they were able to move the ball effectively against us and convert on their chances. We were down 43-33 at halftime still with all the turnovers and misses. In the second half, we got it as close to 6 points but couldn't hit the big shot to bring us back.”

The Braves tightened up defensively against Nevis, but again weren't able to make shots. “We did a much better job of taking care of the ball, as we only had 10 turnovers for the game,” said Kaiser. “However, we only converted on 3 of our 25 three point attempts, while Nevis knocked down 10 threes. That was the difference in the game, as again we were able to make a couple small runs, but couldn't cut into the deficit enough to make it a closer game. We gave up 62, but had to foul late to extend the game. I was happier with our defensive effort and hustle, but we just couldn't knock down open looks.”

Menahga will host Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Thursday and Laporte on Friday to end their pre-Christmas schedule.
