The Henning girls’ basketball team led 35-17 at the half and went on to defeat Brandon-Evansville by a score of 59-49 on Saturday afternoon in Henning.  With the win the Hornets improve to 6-0 to start the season.

“We hit a lull in the first half for about 5 minutes and that was the difference today,” commented Head Coach Zach Traphagen of Brandon-Evansville. “It was a competitive game that we led midway through the first half but we lost our intensity and pride for a few minutes and against a team like Henning, they’ll bury you when that happens. We regrouped and had a much better second half so that is something positive to build on going into next week. It’s important for us to play consistently with max effort these next two games before we head into Christmas break.”

B-E was led by Mikenna Pattrin with 17 points, 4 blocked shots and 2 steals.  Kristen Kokett added 7 points, 3 steals and 2 assists and Bailey Schaefer scored 6 points, came up with 3 steals, dished out a pair of assists and blocked a shot.  Brittany Korkowski was the leading rebounder with 5.  The Chargers shot 44% (16-36) from the field.

No Henning stats were reported.

The Hornets will play at Sebeka on Tuesday night before closing out their pre-Christmas schedule with a home game against Battle Lake on Thursday.

The Chargers (6-2) have a pair of road games next week, at Hancock on Tuesday and at Ortonville on Friday.
