The Ashby girls’ basketball team trailed 23-20 at halftime to the Hillcrest Comets, however, the Arrows battled back for a 40-31 victory, holding Hillcrest to just 8 second half points.

“We played well in the first half, but Ashby came out and pressed us in the second and our girls really struggled to get the ball past half-court,” said Head Coach Hannah Clark of Hillcrest.  “Mackenzie Foss had a great game offensively and Audra Ewan did a very nice job defensively.  Anna Rasmussen worked hard on the defensive board.”

Foss led the Comets with 20 points, making 8-of-9 free throws.  She also pulled down 7 rebounds.  Rasmussen had a team high 12 rebounds and Molly McGuire added 5 points.

“In what has been a troubling pattern so far this year, the Arrows started slow allowing the Comets to lead at halftime, however, the Arrow defense really got rolling in the second half by holding the visitors to just 8 points in the final set to win by the 9 point margin,” reported Ashby Head Coach Alan Niemann.

Kalista Aamot and Courtney Koefod led the team in scoring (14 and 13 respectively) and rebounding (12 and 8 respectively).

“Prone to fouls, the Arrows finally had fewer fouls than their opponents by a margin of 14 to 18 and as so often happens, this leads to a positive result as it did on this occasion,” noted Coach Niemann.
