Two Late Goals Carry Otter Boys Past Willmar in CLC Hockey

The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period, had a 3-1 lead after two and then fell behind 4-3 late in the third period before rallying for two goals in the final two minutes to post a 5-4 home ice win over Willmar in a Central Lakes Conference game on Thursday night.

Cole Zierden scored from Isaac Johnson just 1:45 into the game and then Johnson scored from Logan Schake and Hayden Shol at the twelve minute mark to give the Otters a 2-0 advantage.

In the second period, Willmar got on the board on an Elbridge DeKraal goal, assisted by Isaiah Cameron and Devin Sankey at 12:49.  A shorthanded goal by Michael DeBrito at 16:26 gave the Otters a 3-1 lead.

DeKrall notched a power play goal from Blake Tersch and Ethan Weber at 4:43 of the third and Ashton Gregory added a second power play goal at 5:33, assisted by DeKraal.  DeKrall gave Willmar a 4-3 lead, completing his hat trick at 10:39, unassisted.  DeBrito tied the game with a power play goal for the Otters, setup by Andrew Johnson, and Isaac Johnson’s second goal of the night proved to be the game winner from Zierden and Shol at 16:19.

Fergus Falls had 31 shots on goal and Willmar had 30.  Ben Swanson notched 26 saves and earned the win for the Otters.
