The Brandon-Evansville girls’ basketball team fell behind 20-13 at halftime Monday night, however, the Chargers turned up the defensive intensity in the second half as they held the Wolverines to 11 second half points and won the game 36-31.

“It was a struggle offensively all night tonight for both teams,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Zach Traphagen. “We had way too many turnovers in the first half, gave up too many offensive rebounds and just got flat out hustled at times. Thankfully, basketball games aren’t played for just one half. We came out much more assertive in the second half and really dialed up the intensity on the defensive end to pull out a hard earned road victory. We know we have to play much cleaner on both ends, but the girls stayed together and found a way to win ugly.”

Mikenna Pattrin pulled down 13 rebounds to lead B-E on the boards.  Bailey Schaefer was the scoring leader with 8 points.  Pattrin and Brittany Korkowski added 7 points each, while Haddey Zastrow and Maddie Otto contributed 6 points apiece.  Zastrow and Kailee Klimek came up with 3 steals each, while Kristen Kokett and Schaefer led with two assists apiece.

The Chargers shot just 28% (13-45) from the field and made only 2-of-18 3’s (11%).  Brandon-Evansville (5-0) will host Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Thursday and Rothsay on Friday, before traveling to Henning for a Saturday afternoon contest.
