“I was afraid we'd come out with first game jitters and was prepared for Frazee to take control early because it was their third game already,” commented Head Coach Zach Kaiser of Menahga. “We came out and threw the first punch and jumped up 7-2. Charlie Hodge started the scoring for us with a steal and easy layup, and Tristan Aho followed with another layup before Charlie Hodge hit a three in transition. The score at halftime was 37-28, and we pushed it up to a 15 point lead with 9:00 to go, however, Frazee made a run, as we didn't respond well to their pressure. With one minute left, Frazee cut the lead to 5, before cutting the lead to 67-64 with three seconds to play. Wade Berttunen hit 1 of 2 free throws to seal the 68-64 victory.”
Tristan Aho had 25 points with 11 rebounds, Charlie Hodge had 13 points to go with 6 rebounds and 5 steals, Freshman Brock Berttunen had 6 points with 10 rebounds and 3 steals, and Wade Berttunen had 9 points.
Menahga will open their home season against Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday night.
