Otters Win Tom Uvaas Swimming Invitational

The Fergus Falls boys’ swimming and diving team captured first place at the Tom Uvaas Otter Invitational on Saturday, scoring 485 points.  Park Rapids Area was second with 295, followed by Detroit Lakes with 247, Morris Area with 156, Thief River Falls with 139 and Perham/New York Mills with 135.

“The boys did a great job today.  It is always nice to win your home invite and we did in convincing fashion,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Randy Hansen.  “The leadership of our three seniors was key today.  They kept the young guys focused and led by example in the pool.”

First place finishers for the Otters were Will Pawlowski in the 200 freestyle (2:04.59), Noah Osborn in the 100 IM (1:03.68) and the 500 freestyle (5:41.65) and Sean Edman in the 50 freestyle (24.20) and 50 breaststroke (33.84).  The Otters also won the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.40) with Edman, Osborn, Steve Wohlenhaus and Pawlowski, and the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.22) with Edman, Osborn, Ty Butler and Pawlowski.

“Will Pawlowski with a very nice 200 free and 100 fly,” noted Coach Hansen.  “Noah Osborn turned in a terrific 500 race and Steven Wohlenhaus was key to our 200 medley and 400 free relays.  Overall, lots of great time drops last season and a good meet to build on for the rest of the season.”

The Otters tied for second with Perham in the 200 freestyle relay (2:03.78) with the team of Wohlenhaus, Micah Zosel, Christian Reed and Max Nacke.  Other second place finishers were Logan Rott in the 100 IM (1:09.90) and the 100 breaststroke (1:19.48), Pawlowski in the 100 butterfly (1:02.53), Tyler Kubela in the 50 butterfly (29.44) and 100 freestyle (59.54), Christian Reed in the 500 freestyle (5:44.71) and Ryan Aanerud (1:12.41) in the 100 backstroke.  Aanerud was also third in the 200 IM (2:43.96), Butler placed third in the 50 butterfly (30.37), Wohlenhaus was third in the 100 butterfly (1:10.92) and Nacke took third in the 50 breaststroke.

Taking fourth for the Otters were Butler in the 100 IM (1:13.06), Zander Childers in the 50 backstroke (44.02), Zosel in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.57), the 200 freestyle relay team (1:57.93) of Kubela, Adrian Blondeau, Matt Pajari and Aanerud, and the 400 freestyle relay team (4:05.03) of Reed, Kubela, Aanerud and Nacke.

The 200 medley relay team (2:38.96) of Blondeau, Jacob Kettner, Rott and Kendal Mouritsen placed fifth.  Reed was fifth in the 50 freestyle (25.92), Zosel in the 100 freestyle (1:01.99) and Kettner in the 50 backstroke (44.24).

Sixth place finishers were Pajari in the 200 freestyle (2:38.68), Alec Richards in the 100 backstroke (1:19.15), William Ness-Ludwig in the 50 breaststroke (48.90) and the 400 freestyle relay team (4:32.10) of Butler, Zosel, Pajari and Richards.
