Fergus Falls hosted Alexandria in a Central Lakes Conference girls’ basketball contest on Friday night with the Otters defeating the Cardinals by a score of 57-39, improving to 3-1 with their third consecutive victory.

“I thought we played well defensively as a team,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Brad Strand.  “I loved our attack mode all night long.  This is a tremendous win against a big rival and a program we have a lot of respect for.”

With Alexandria leading 4-3, the Otters rattled off 9 straight points to take a 12-4 lead.  Fergus Falls went ahead 15-7, however, Alexandria scored 8 straight points to forge the only tie of the night at 15-15.  The Otters scored the next 8 points and led 23-15 before Alexandria added a late free throw to put the halftime lead at 23-16.  Fergus Falls scored 14 of the first 15 points in the second half to take a 20 point lead at 37-17.  The Cardinals got back to within 13 points, but the Otters were able to maintain their double digit lead and finish strong for an 18 point victory.

Ellie Colbeck, who missed the entire game in Brainerd on Tuesday night, didn’t start the game but came off the bench to score 17 points, 14 of them in the second half.  She was joined in double figures by Sabrina Fronning with 14 points, 10 of which came in the first half, and eight rebounds.  Paige Pearson added 9 points and 14 rebounds, and Tori Ratz contributed 8 points.

Junior guard Jaya Hatlestad was the only Alexandria player in double digits with 12 points, nailing three 3’s and converting an old fashioned three-point play with a 2-point field goal and a free throw.  Mia McGrane and Summer Gerhardt added six points apiece.

Fergus Falls went 13-for-22 on the free throw line and Alexandria was 4-for-10.

Katie Strommen scored 15 points to lead the JV team to a 47-45 win and in the ninth grade game, Centreya Lockett had 17 points in a 31-29 Fergus Falls victory.
