The West Central Area Knights hit 36-63 shots for 57% in an 87-47 win over the Battle Lake Battlers on Thursday night in Barrett.  The Knights built a 48-27 halftime lead.

Jack VanKempen led the Knights with a double-double and stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocked shots.  Joining him in double figures were Grant Beuckens with 20 points and 3 steals, Gage Staples with 19 points and 6 rebounds, and Jacob Bright with 12 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals.  Blake Koloski added 9 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals and Tate Christenson added 8 points.  Ryder Staples had 3 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals; Brady Reeve had 2 points and 4 rebounds, and Xander Bontjes had 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Leading the Battlers was Drew Johnson with a career high 18 points, Riley Leabo 14, Brennan Amundson 9, Thomas Himmelspach 4, and Nick Carter-Johnson 4.

“We got into foul trouble right away with four starters getting two fouls in the first half and we had to sit them down,” said Battle Lake Head Coach CJ Peeters.  “WCA is a very good team and took advantage.  We had some good experience for our younger guys.  Drew played well, within himself, and led the way.  He was a bright spot for us in a big loss on the road.  No time to sulk, we have a good Brandon-Evansville team on Saturday.”

The Battlers made 16-47 shots for 34%.  The Knights forced Battle Lake into 26 turnovers while committing 12.  The Knights won the battle of the boards 38-31.

"Once again our defense was very active.  Johnson shot the ball well for them off the bench but we did a nice job on all five of their starters as we held Cameron and Van Erp scoreless," said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter.  "Offensively was the same as our last game.  Good aggressive play, good stretches, but some sloppy stretches we still need to clean up.  Overall it was a good first week."
