Both teams held steady with one another throughout the first period, with neither the Otters nor the Cardinals clearing the zero. Then, in the first minute of the second period, Maddison Brimhall provided the assist for an Averie Tonneson goal for the Maroon & Gold. After ten scoreless minutes, Alexandria snuck one past the goalie, making the score at period break 1-1. In the third period, the Cards took their only lead of the contest, which was short-lived at just a minute and a half. At the ten minute mark of the third, Anna Sem scored for the Otters, with the assist to Lydia Johnson.
With a 2-2 score, both teams worked hard for the final minutes of the third, hoping to emerge victorious. With neither team pulling ahead, the game extended to a 5-minute, sudden-death overtime. With the final minute ticking away, Maggie Greenagel snuck one final biscuit in the basket and the Prairie’s Edge squad earned the win. Otter goalie Mia Olson earned 17 saves in the hard-fought contest.
This weekend, the Otters return to Alexandria to compete in the 10U A Tournament, facing off against Chaska/Chanhassen, Hopkins Park & Blaine.
