Underwood led 23-19 at halftime in their Little Eight Conference opener against Ashby on Tuesday night.  The Rockets went on to outscore the Arrows 36-29 in the second half, recording a 59-48 victory.

“The first half we struggled offensively to make good decisions and didn’t play very good team defense,” said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland.  “We got off to a fast start again, but we faded on both ends of the floor.  Ashby played really well.  They attacked the rim, finished, and hit open shots.”

Leaders for the Rockets were Josey Bugbee (19 points, 6 rebounds), Brooke Hovland (14 points, 6 rebounds), Kayla Rocholl (12 points, 5 assists, 3 steals) and Ceri Meech (8 points, 6 rebounds).  Underwood made 39% (24-61) of their shots from the floor, hitting 35% (6-17) from 3-point range and making 55% (5-9) from the foul line.

For Ashby, Celi Nelson delivered 22 points, Courtney Koefod scored 14 and Kalista Aamodt added 10.  The Arrows made 32% (18-55) of their field goal attempts, hitting 4-of-11 (36%) from beyond the arc.

“Josey had a very good second half, scoring 18 of her 19 points,” said Coach Hovland.  “She did a great job of getting open and making smart decisions.  We did a better job of finding the open girl versus their zone defense in the second half.  Defensively, it took us till about the ten minute mark in the second half to play together and do things correctly.  We will need to play better defensively.  It’s early in the season and we have some work to do”
