Playing without point guard Ellie Colbeck, who was nursing an ankle injury, the Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team fell behind 9-1 and 16-4 in the first half, before going on a 16-0 run to end the half and take a 25-20 halftime lead on the way to a 53-34 road win over the Brainerd Warriors on Tuesday night.

Carlie Meis hit a big 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to send the Otters to the locker room with some much needed momentum.  The Otters played the majority of the first half without post player Paige Pearson, who picked up her third foul less than a minute into the game.  Pearson came on strong in the second half, grabbing 8 rebounds.  Tori Ratz scored a team high 26 points, hitting seven 3’s in the game.  Sabrina Fronning contributed a double-double with 10 steals and 12 points.

“Our defense really turned up the pressure when we fell behind and that led to some good scoring opportunities that we took advantage of,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Brad Strand.  “I’m proud of their effort as they played through some adversity early in the game.”

Olivia Tautges and Meghan Smith led Brainerd with 7 points apiece.

Fergus Falls won the JV game 50-27 with Katie Strommen and Ainsley Hansen scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively.  Brainerd won the ‘C’ game 56-39 with Jenna Carlson scoring 17 to lead the Otters.

Fergus Falls will host Alexandria on Friday night.
