The Fergus Falls wrestling team has a number of experienced wrestlers returning and will be looking to some underclassmen to crack the varsity starting lineup this season.

The Otters will be led by Dustin Portales who led the team in wins and pins last year while placing fourth in the AA State Tournament, qualifying for state for the second straight year.  Kaden Hartwell led the team in near fall points and takedowns, while Lucas Oliphant was voted most dedicated by his peers.  Those three will be joined by Juan Rodriguez and Eli Sorum as team captains this season.

Jacob Widness, voted Most Improved wrestler last season is back, along with Braedon Wagner, Caden Olsen, Sam Sorum, Delvin Roberts, Joey Graff and Ethan Leopold.

Jonah Sorum will be looking to fill a varsity weight after dominating the JV scene last year, leading the team in wins, near fall points and takedowns.  Jonah also qualified for the 2019 Minnesota 7th through 9th grade state tournament, placing fifth in his weight class.

“All main goal is to have the kids keep improving in all areas of life,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Adam Schlepp.  “I want our team performances to improve, I want our team academic score to improve, and I want to improve our total athlete numbers.  There are a lot of areas our team can improve in, so we intend to improve in each of these areas a little bit each day.”

Schlepp, who will be assisted by Andrew Goracke, Perry Holm and Gus Makovsky, points to Willmar, St. Cloud Apollo/Tech co-op, Brainerd and Sauk Rapids as teams battling for supremacy in the tough Central Lakes Conference.
