The Ashby boys’ basketball team finished 16-8 under first year Head Coach John Holsten last season and as Holsten begins year number two he does so with three returning starters in the lineup.

Senior Guard Noah Johnson, junior Post/Wing Jaden Norby and sophomore Guard/Wing Hunter Norby all return, along with junior guard Ashton Ecker.

Juniors Derrek Bartz (Guard), Bobby Anderson (Wing/Post), Jake Rein (Wing) and Miles Hoff (Wing/Post), and sophomores Jacob Cook (Post/Wing), Torin Olson (Guard), Carter Spangler (Guard), Matson Hoff (Wing), Evan Paulson (Wing), Sam Heeter (Post), Carson Spangler (Guard) and Sam Sorenson (Post) will all be looking to earn varsity playing time.

“We have some experienced varsity leaders,” commented Coach Holsten.  “We need players who are getting their first varsity experience to be resilient and tough.  Our success depends on shot selection and how hard we compete on the defensive end of the basketball court.”

Jeremy Quernemoen and Richard Cordes will assist Holsten.

Holsten believes the Little Eight Conference will be very competitive with Brandon-Evansville, Parkers Prairie, Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, Battle Lake, Rothsay and Underwood all having a shot at the conference title.

As for Section 6A, he says West Central Area, Henning, Parkers Prairie, Brandon-Evansville, Park Christian, Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal and New York Mills will all be in the hunt.
