With the return of eight of the top nine players from their 6-17 team of a year ago, the Sebeka boys’ basketball are poised to make a run in the Park Region Conference.  Head Coach Jon Lillquist is in his 23rd season and will be assisted by Jeff Lake and Luke Roberts.

Seniors Kolby Kiser (6’5 Post), Brandon Miller (6’0 Forward) and Tyce Lee (5’8 Guard), and juniors Dawson Bullock (6’2 Guard) and David Avelsgard (6’0 Forward) are returning starters for the Trojans.  Senior Ethan Simon (6’2 Forward), and juniors Mason Heino (5’8 Guard) and Spencer Lake (5’ 11 Post) also return with varsity experience.  Newcomer Isaac Kyllonen (SO, 5’7 Guard) is expected to fill a varsity role, also.

“Kolby Kiser averaged a double-double on the season and earned state player of the week,” stated Coach Lillquist.  “We were on a roll after a rough start and then lost a starter to injury and went on a losing streak to end the season. This year we have 8 of our top 9 players returning from that team.  We should rebound well and play solid defense.  Our shooting needs to improve and we have to cut our turnovers down.”

Coach Lillquist says Henning, Wadena-Deer Creek and Pillager are the top teams in the Park Region Conference, while Nevis, Pine River-Backus and Cromwell are the favorites in Section 5A.
