Spartans Lose by 2 Points to Lake Superior College

The M State Spartans led 38-34 at the half on Saturday, but Lake Superior College put up 40 second half points to t 34 for M State over the final twenty minutes to record a 74-72 win at the Central Lakes College Classic in Brainerd.

James Hobson led three players in double digits for Fergus Falls, scoring 19 points.  Alend Alemadi added 16 points and Jonas Baune contributed a dozen points and 9 rebounds.  Hobson added 7 boards and Nic Pearson had a team high 3 assists.

The Spartans hit 45.6% (26-57) of their field goal attempts, but shot just 24.1% (7-29) from 3-point range, while making only 13-of-24 (54.2%) free throws.

Lake Superior College shot 37.1% (26-70) from the field and made 21.4% (6-28) of their 3’s, while hitting 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the foul line.  They were led by 16 points from Joel Bailey and 15 points from Jarves HuntKenten Miller added 10 points and 8 rebounds.  Their rebound leader was Branley Previl with 9.  Hunt topped the charts with 5 assists.

M State, now 2-3 on the season, will host Northland Community and Technical College on Tuesday night at 7:00pm.  The Spartans lost an earlier match with the Pioneers, 75-62, in Thief River Falls.
