Spartans Break the Century Mark with Hot Shooting Night in Brainerd

The Spartan Men’s basketball team recorded a 101-78 win over Central Lakes on Friday night in Brainerd as part of the Central Lakes Classic.  M State led 49-32 at the half and added 52 second half points as they went to 2-2 on the season.

“It was an intense game,” said Head Coach Shawn Sorenson of M State.  “We shot the lights out and played with the lead most of the game.”

Alex Hendricks came off the bench to score a team high 19 points, hitting all five of his three-point shots and all four of his free throws.  Renell Edwards, Alend Alemadi and James Hobson scored 18 points apiece and Nic Pearson added 13 points.  M State shot 51.8% (29-56) from the field and buried 19-of-34 (55.9%) of their 3’s.  They also made 80% (24-30) of their free throws.

The Spartans recorded assists on 21 of their 29 made baskets, led by Edwards and Hobson with five each.  Six different Spartans had 5 rebounds or more led by Alemadi with 7.  Hobson and Christian Norby grabbed six boards apiece.

The Raiders shot just 33.33% (25-75) from the field and hit just 23.1% (6-26) from 3-point range.  Josh Arnold (15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals) and Lionel Warner (15 points, 6 rebounds) were the leaders for Central Lakes (1-3).

M State will face Lake Superior College at 2:00pm Saturday in Brainerd.
