Hornets Lose State Quarterfinal Match in 3 Sets

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, seeded number two in the Class A State Volleyball Tournament, ended Hennings hope for championship run with a quick three set victory, 25-11, 25-21, 25-18 in their quarterfinal match at Xcel Energy Center on Thursday November 7.

The Buccaneers were led by junior hitter Toryn Richards who had 13 kills and 20 digs. Trista Hering added 9 kills, block assists and one solo block, Delaney Donahue contributed 9 kills and 10 digs, Kylie Pittman came through with 8 kills and 9 digs, and Ellie Ready distributed 28 set assists and served up 4 aces to go along with 9 digs.

Junior middle hitter Megan Rinicker, of Henning led the Hornets with nine kills. Ellie Dague came off the bench and added 6 kills for the Hornets and Abi Eckhoff had five.  Dig leaders were Kylee Mesker with 15 and Faith Fisher with 9.  Sydney Eckhoff added 25 set assists and 8 digs.

Henning will meet Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the consolation semifinals on Friday at 3:00pm at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.  The Hornets must win on Friday to play again on Saturday.
