The Spartan Men's Basketball program kicks off their season at Home Thursday night against the Mayville State JV with tip-off starting at 7:00 PM.  They will play 11 games before college Semester break in which they will have 4 Home games and 7 road games including 2 overnight trips with Friday/Saturday games.  Their schedule after returning from Semester break begins with 5 Home games including the Spartan Classic and then their first 3 MCAC Southern Division opponents.  They will play a total of 14 games versus 7 different MCAC Southern division opponents and the top 4 teams from the division will qualify for the Region 13 Tournament.  The Southern division is always very competitive and will provide a new challenge each game.  Last year the Spartans finished with a 13-14 record, finishing in a 3-way tie for the final MCAC South playoff spot and just missing out on a post season berth. They were tough at home, recording an 11-3 record.

The Spartans will be led by returning sophomore and Team Captain Alend Alemadi.  Alemadi, a 5'10 guard from Moorhead, played a key role for the 2018-2019 team and the team will look for him to be a leader on both ends of the floor.  TJ Martin, a 6'2 Guard that played big minutes last season, will also be expected to play well as a returning sophomore.  Sophomore transfer Dalven "DJ" Johnson is a 6'3 forward who brings experience playing against MCAC competition last season.

The three sophomores will be complimented by a great incoming class of 9 freshmen who are eager to begin their Spartan careers.

Nic Pearson, a 6'1 Guard from Fergus Falls, Mert Taylor, a 6'1 Guard from Rochester, Christian Norby, a 6'2 Wing from Ashby, Jonas Baune, a 6'6 Post from New York Mills, Renell Edwards, a 5'10 Guard from St. Cloud Apollo, Zak Zaid, a 6'4 Wing from West Fargo Sheyenne, Alex Hendricks, a 5'10 Guard from Atwater, Daquan Salley, a 6'2 Wing from Chicago(IL), and James Hobson, a 6'0 Guard from Maywood(IL).  "All of our freshmen have been working really hard each day and they each bring a unique set of skills to our team that will be important to our success,” said Head Coach Shawn Sorenson.  “They fit our style of basketball here at M State and have developed great relationships with each other and with our sophomores."

Fans can expect the Spartans to play an up-tempo style of basketball that focuses on playing great defense, rebounding, and sharing the ball on offense.  We greatly appreciate all of our fan support throughout the years and hope that you will continue to support us this season.
