Perham Boys and Girls Claim Record Third Straight CC State Titles

The Perham boys’ and girls’ cross country teams accomplished a feat that has never been done before when the two teams each won their third consecutive state title at the Class A State Meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield on Saturday.

 

The boys’ won with 75 points, just eight points in front of the runner-up West Central Area Knights.  Jakob McCleary was the first Yellowjacket to come in, finishing fourth, and Brandon O’Hara was eighth.  Bailey Evenson took fifteenth place, Carson Hespe was 38th, Chase Belka was 49th, Owen Werner was 58th and Tesfaye Young took 82nd place.

Geno Uhrbom of Greenway was the individual champion and Emmet Anderson of Staples-Motley was second.  Jacob Bright of West Central Area claimed third place and Hunter Klimek of Staples-Motley came in fifth.

The Perham girls’ score 103 points on the way to their first place finish and Luverne took second with 138.  Morgan Gehl of Murray County Central won the individual title.  Kyanna Burton of Staples-Motley was sixth, Kira Sweeney of Wadena-Deer Creek was seventh and Calia Chaney of Pequot Lakes claimed eighth place.
