The college volleyball season ended on Friday for the M State Spartans as they lost to St. Cloud Technical and Community College 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 20-25, 16-25) in Rochester.

“We came out strong in the first set against St. Cloud playing great and had good energy and enthusiasm, but unfortunately it didn’t last the whole match,” said Head Volleyball coach Abby Crowser. “We often struggled this year with playing consistent and on Friday it was our downfall. Even though the weekend didn’t result in what we hoped for, overall it was a very successful season. There were plenty of accomplishments achieved by this team that proved how talented they were.”

Leaders for the lady Spartans were Alexa Mortenson (10 kills, 3 blocks, 5 digs, 11/12 serving), Katherine Mastey (8 kills, 1 block, 8 digs), Hannah Ekse (7 kills, 3 blocks, 6 digs), Bailey Marty (28 digs, 19/21 serving, 7 ace serves), Taylor Berndt (11 digs, 10/11 serving, 1 ace), Sydney Hovland (32 set assists, 3 blocks, 12/13 serving, 3 aces), Sierra Jenson (8 digs, 2 aces) and Alexis Heisler (7 digs, 10/12 serving, 1 ace).

Freshman libero Bailey Marty was named to the Region XIIIA All-Tournament team.  Setter Brekkin McCready of Rochester was the Tournament MVP and was joined on the All-Tournament team by her teammates Hayley Dessner (MH/OH) and Carrie Rutledge (OH), Kamryn D’Heilly (M) and Rilee Hohbein (MH) of St. Cloud, and setter Emily Knight of Ridgewater.

Sydney Hovland was named to the First Southern All-Division Team, while Katherine Mastey, Hannah Ekse and Bailey Marty were all named to the second team.
