The Barnesville Trojans had 605 yards of total offense on Saturday afternoon as they dominated the Warroad Warriors, winning their Section 8AA semifinal contest by the score of 64-16.  The  Trojans ran for 435 yards and had 170 passing yards on the day.

“Warroad came out and hit a 70 yard pass on first play of game on a pump and go and our safety heard man coverage instead of zone so came up and left the wide receiver all alone,” reported Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand. “Adam Tonsfeldt came all the way across the field and made the tackle at about the 12 yard line.  Two plays later our DB was right there and the kid made a great catch.  It's only the 2nd time all year someone scored on us in the first half of a game.  Mistakes happen, learn from it and move on.  From there we ran the ball and threw the ball very well.  We played the run fantastic all day besides a mistake here and there.  We were up 44-8 at half and the team got talked to pretty sternly about doing their jobs and to just play the game.  We were getting mixed up with too much extra-curriculars on the field, making dumb mistakes and not playing at the level I expect from the team.  Hard to put out when you are up 44-8, but I do believe they understood where I was coming from.  In the 2nd half I didn't see any more behaviors or dumb plays out of our starters.  I felt the backups came in and played very well, they moved the ball and played fairly good defense.  Our starting backs had an amazing run average.  As a team we averaged over 13 yards per rush and if you just did the starters along with Cam Heng we averaged 19 yards per carry, that is simply amazing.  Adam played fantastic on both sides of the ball, throwing for 2 TD's running for two TD's and having three interceptions. We have some things to fix but that is normal right now, we need to tighten the D up and play better vs the pass.”

Aaron Schiefert (6 carries, 126 yards, TD) and Tonsfeldt (4 carries, 102 yards, 2 TDs) led the rushing attack for the Trojans.  Hunter Anderson carried the ball only three times, but had 53 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Tonsfeldt also completed 3-of-4 passes for 132 yards and 2 scores.  Jackson Wahl was on the receiving end of both TD passes for a total of 71 yards.  Heng ran the ball twice for 47 yards and a TD.

Defensively, in addition to Tonsfeldt’s 3 interceptions, Noah Krause picked off a pass, Brady Kroll recorded a sack, and Tate Shellito and Jonny Robideau were each credited with half-a-sack.  Kroll also had 4 solo tackles and 3 assists, Hunter Zenzen added 3 solo tackles and 2 assists, Joey Mark had one solo tackles and 5 assists, Schiefert had 3 solo tackles and 4 assists, and Heng had 4 solo tackles.

“Next up is Pelican Rapids, they are the #2 seeded team and have had a great year,” commented Coach Strand.  “Dave Haugen always does a fantastic job coaching his kids up.  Should be an exciting 8AA final, will be excited for the game.  They bring a very good offense being led by junior QB McHale Korf and a very good WR in Jayden Rutherford.  We will have our hands full getting ready for them this week.”
