The Henning Hornets, seeded number on is the South half of Section 6A, completed a sweep of Breckenridge in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs on Friday night at West Central Area High School in Barrett, posting wins of 25-16, 25-20, 25-18.
Senior setter Sydney Eckhoff of the Hornets was sharp all night, distributing the ball effectively to five different hitters, leading to a very balanced attach which was difficult for the Cowgirls to defend. Megan Rinicker, Autumn Grasswick and Abi Eckhoff all had 8 assists, while Serena Greenwood had seven kills and Grace Hammer finished with five. Ellie Dague added a pair of kills in the third set.
Leaders for Breckenridge were Abby Johnson (10 kills, 12 digs, 8/9 serving, 1 ace), Carcie Materi (11/11 serving, 7 set assists, 5 digs), Kaitlin Arnhalt (15 set assists, 9/9 serving, 11 digs), Camryn Kaehler (7 kills, 10/10 serving, 1 ace), 6 digs), Riley Finkral (7/7 serving, 16 digs), Riley Lorenz (6 kills, 2 block assists, 1 solo block), Jude Held (4 block assists, 3 kills), Victoria Undem (3 block assists, 3 digs, 2 kills) and Mikayla Snobl (9/9 serving, 7 digs). The Cowgirls were 54-of-55 from the serving line on the night.
The Hornets will face Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley at 7:00pm Tuesday at West Central Area High School in Barrett. C-G-B beat Brandon-Evansville in a four set match on Friday night.
