“Our pool play matches tested our endurance as we went 3 sets with two AA teams, Park Rapids and Fergus, and finished with the “W” against both of those teams,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Margaret Wilson. “We played well, attacked strong, blocked well, served aggressively, and dug well. These matches were great team wins! We Finished 1st in our 4-team pool, so we were placed in the Gold Division for tournament play where we played a round robin tournament, competing against the other pool’s 1st place teams; Pequot Lakes and Minnewaska. We played against two good AA teams in the Gold Bracket. We struggled against Pequot Lakes, we played way too much defense and couldn’t set up our attackers to gain any momentum. The Cowgirls’ second bracket match didn’t end in their favor either.  Both sets against Minnewaska, we started off strong, leading each set till point 18 or 19, when we got stuck in one rotation. Minnewaska took advantage of that and we just couldn’t finish the set.

Overall, I was happy with our play throughout pool play and disappointed in how we finished. I think we could have competed better against Pequot and Minnewaska, but it’s a lot of volleyball and we just ran out of gas.”

The Cowgirls finished their regular season play with a record of 17-11 and hold the 4th seed in the Section 6A South Standings. Cowgirls will host their first round of playoffs on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7pm.
