Bertha-Hewitt jumped out to an early 16-0 lead against United North Central on Wednesday night in Sebeka and went on to defeat the Warriors by the score of 46-16.

“We got down quickly in the first quarter and never were able to recover from it,” noted UNC Head Coach Luke Roberts.  “Bertha-Hewitt’s size was just too much to handle tonight as the Bears kept the ball on the ground and pounded it all four quarters.”

The game was still close at halftime as the Bears led 16-0.  After a Bertha-Hewitt fumble on the kickoff to start the third quarter, UNC capitalized on a 4-yard run by Jonah Howard and a two-point conversion, cutting the lead to 16-8.  Bertha-Hewitt answered back and scored twice in the third quarter to make the score 30-8.

In the fourth quarter, Kolby Kiser connected with Eion Ness on a 32-yard touchdown and Howard ran the ball in for the two-point conversion to put the score at 30-16 and give the Warriors some life.  The Bears put up a pair of fourth quarter TD’s to reach the final score of 46-16.

Howard carried the ball 21 times for 88 yards and Kiser completed 5-of-20 passes for 112 yards.  Six different receivers caught passes for the Warriors.  Defensive leaders were Howard (1 solo tackle, 15 assists), Miller (1 solo tackle, 12 assists), Ness (5 solo tackles, 9 assists), Dakota Meech (3 solo tackles, 3 assists, 1 sack) and Logan Torma (7 assisted tackles, 1 fumble recovery).

The Warriors open the Section 8AA playoffs as the number seven seed and will travel to second-seeded Pelican Rapids for a 6:00pm contest on Tuesday night.
