Cowboys Record 25-20 Road Win Over Red Lake County

The Breckenridge Cowboys only had five first downs and possessed the football for less than ten minutes on Wednesday night, but rallied with 12 fourth quarter points to record a 25-20 road win over Red Lake County as the regular season came to an end.

Breckenridge scored first when Jacob Vizenor broke loose for a 59 yard touchdown run and Cooper Yaggie added the extra point kick.  They increased their lead to 13-0 when Jack Aigner picked off a pass and went 45 yards to the end zone will 11:11 left in the first half.

Red Lake County got on the scoreboard when Derek Peterson scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter, and they added two points on a safety later in the quarter, putting the halftime lead at 13-8 for Breckenridge.

In the third quarter, Zak Kennett scored after scooping up a blocked punt, handing Red Lake County their first lead of the night at 14-13.

Breckenridge regained the lead at 19-14 early in the fourth quarter when Jack Aigner completed a 42 yard pass to Jace Jensen.  Jensen added a 55 yard punt return for the final Breckenridge touchdown to make it a 25-14 lead for the Cowboys with 8:45 to play in the game.  Peterson connected with Zach Benson for an 11-yard TD pass to complete the scoring with the Cowboys winning 25-20.

The Cowboys had 161 rushing yards and 42 passing yards for a total of 203 yards on just 25 offensive snaps.  Jacob Vizenor led Breckenridge with 78 yards on just 4 touches and Chris Nieto had 57 yards on his only carry of the night.

Red Lake County finished with 283 (205 rushing, 78 passing) total yards on 79 plays, picking up 20 first downs.  They had the football for over 38 minutes in the game.  Derek Peterson led Red Lake County with 77 rushing yards on 18 carries and Damon Ferguson finished with 55 yards on 14 attempts.  Chris Longtin added 53 yards on 16 carries.  Zak Kennett (4 catches, 57 yards) and Zach Benson (5 catches, 59 yards) were the leading receivers for the home team.
