Battlers Defeat Rockets on Senior Night in Battle Lake

The Battle Lake volleyball team defeated the Underwood Rockets 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-21) on Tuesday night. 

The Battlers got off to a slow start with the Rockets taking a 13-4 lead in set one.  The Battlers then slowly started finding their rhythm and picked up their defense.  The Battlers were down 24 -20 when Kate Christensen put a string of 5 points to take the lead at 25-24.  The Battlers had the momentum and never looked back from there.  The Battlers to a lead at 10-7 in the second set with Underwood never coming closer than 2 points and the Battlers finished strong in set 3 taking and keeping the lead the whole set. 

“This was a great way to finish the regular season and celebrate Senior night,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “Our 3 seniors Halie Johnson, Makenna Tysdal, and Maleah Hull, did a great job tonight being leaders on the court and played hard the whole match.” 

Johnson finished with 4 kills and 10 digs.  Tysdal also had 10 digs and Hull finished with 4 kills and 2 blocks.  Grace Van Erp led the Battlers with 9 kills and 4 blocks while Kate Christensen finished with 8 kills and 19 assists. 

“We started the match with good control, but the momentum switched when we made unforced errors and Battle Lake’s defense stepped up,” commented Underwood Head Coach Diane Ross.  “It was a hard fought match throughout each set.” 

Ally Johnson led the Rockets with 6 blocks and 6 kills, Brooke Hovland had 7 kills and 11 digs along with 11-11 serving with an ace, Kayla Rocholl added 4 ace serves and 11 digs, and Reese Richards added 20 set assists. 

Underwood will finish out the regular season on Thursday at the Underwood Invitational tourney. 

The Battlers are off until the pigtail round of the Section 6A tournament next Monday.
