Underwood defeated Rothsay 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-14) on Monday night in the Rockets Senior Night contest.

“We came out very aggressive,” said Underwood Head Coach Diane Ross.  “Celebrating our seniors and their parents always makes a special night, and our team came out ready to play. Senior Kayla Rocholl started our serving and led us to a 6-0 start, Rothsay rallied back to make it a 6-5 score, but then Brianna Evavold (25/25 serving, 2 aces) served 11 straight points and we had good control of the set.  Our energy continued throughout the match.  Rothsay has some good defensive players and there were many long rallies.  Reese Richards did a good job of distributing the ball tonight getting 27 assists.”

Kayla Rocholl (7 kills, 9 digs), Shaynah Smith (7 kills, 1 block), Ally Johnson (7 kills, 2 blocks), Brooke Hovland (8 kills, 6/6 serving, 2 aces), Reese Richards (9/9 serving, 2 aces) and Amber Frigaard (7 digs) were the statistical leaders for Underwood.

The Rockets are 6-3 in the conference and 11 - 12 overall and will face Battle Lake in their last conference match Tuesday night.

Leaders for Rothsay were Jenna Fabre (7 kills, 5 digs, 1 ace), Summer Wigdahl (8 digs, 100% serving), Kenadi Carlsrud (4 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks) and Jayna Gronewold (10 assists, 4 digs, 1 kill).

“It was not a great night for the Tigers,” said Rothsay Head Coach Kim Braaten.  “We couldn’t find our momentum as a team tonight and it really cost us in each set.  Underwood had a strong night all around and didn’t let up their tone on the floor.  The Tigers are going to move forward, learn from our mistakes and get ready four out next game against West Central Area.”
