Lady Spartans Earn Road Split

The M State volleyball team split their weekend road trip, beating Western Tech 3-2 (25-22, 24-26, 28-26, 20-25, 15-10) on Friday night and losing to Rochester 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon.

Against Western Tech, Hannah Ekse delivered 23 kills, Katherine Mastey had 14 and Alexa Mortenson came up with 10.  Mortenson and Ekse each contributed 5 blocks and Mastey added 3 as the lady Spartans had a total of 13 team blocks in the match.  Sydney Hovland distributed 45 set assists.  Defensive leaders were Bailey Marty with 41 digs, Taylor Berndt with 28 and Alexis Heisler with 19.  Sierra Jenson and Hovland added 18 digs each, and Mastey finished with a dozen.

M State served 91% (101/111) as a team, led by Berndt (23/24, 1 ace), Jenson (21/22, 1 ace), Mortenson (19/20), Heisler (17/20, 3 aces), Marty (11/12, 1 ace) and Hovland (10/13).

Statistical leaders in the loss to Rochester were Ekse (13 kills, 3 blocks), Mastey (8 kills, 6 digs), Hovland (24 set assists, 3 blocks, 5 kills, 6 digs), Marty (17 digs, 12/13, 4 aces), Jenson (11 digs, 9/10, 1 ace) and Heisler (10 digs).  The Spartans struggled with their serving in this match, going 49-for-59 (83.1%).
