Brandon-Evansville provided the opposition for Senior Night at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Thursday night as the Chargers defeated the Comets in three sets, 25-11, 25-9, 25-17.

“Heading to Fergus Falls to play Hillcrest is always tough because no matter what they never quit,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Kelly Olson. “I have never seen a Hillcrest team stop playing because they are down. Tonight was no different. We had control of the match for the first two sets and heading into the third I had a feeling they would make a run at us. That third set was back and forth until about point 16 when we had some free ball opportunities and some timely ace serves to finish out the match. On or side of the net we did a great job siding them out. Our first serve side out was 64% and our match side out was over 74%, so we took good care of the ball. We had good balance offensively and did a great job from the serving line. Gretchen Bredberg continued to serve well for us tonight as she has all year. Defensively, Kristen Kokett cleaned up balls left and right and did a great job delivering the ball to Korrie Randt who did a nice job spreading the ball out and made some smart decisions throughout the match. I think the balance on our swings was really nice to see. Overall a good performance tonight and we look forward to getting ready to travel to Parkers Prairie next Tuesday for our last regular season match.”

Brandon-Evansville was led by Bailey Schaefer (12 kills, 7 digs, 12/14 serving, 2 aces), Mikenna Pattrin (6 kills), Kristen Kokett (14 digs), Kailee Klimek (12 digs, 4 kills, 15/15 serving, 2 aces), Korrie Randt (22 set assists, 5 digs, 13/13 serving), Haddey Zastrow (2 blocks, 2 kills) and Gretchen Bredberg (15/15 serving, 1 ace).  Brittany Korkowski was a perfect 7-for-7 on the serving line and the Chargers served 93.2% (68/73) as a team.

“The Chargers hit the ball extremely well tonight and we had a hard time getting a block on their hitters,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “We played “reactionary” instead of controlling the ball on our side of the net. The third set started better and we kept the score close until midway through the set. On the bright side, we had a chance to honor our four seniors tonight as well as recognize the eight Norwegian exchange students who have been playing volleyball this fall.”

Hope Adams, Marie Ruud, and Madi Foss each had 3 kills on the night. Mackenzie Foss and Madison Foss each had 9 digs and Marie Ruud had 6. Olivia Stanton had 5 set assists and Audra Ewan had 4.
