The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Boys Soccer team was defeated by the Alexandria Cardinals in Thursday’s section game in Alexandria by the score of 6-3.

The Cardinal speed and ball control proved too much for the Comet Squad in the second half.  The Comets did silence the home crowd early at two minutes as Vetle Myntevik slammed home a goal off an assist from Severin Breck attacking the left goal line.  Just two minutes later, the Cards tied it off a free kick from 35 yards out by Jacob Siira resulting in a scramble in front of the Comets net, the defense unable to clear.  Just two minutes later the Cards would go ahead on a tap in by Joshua Kietzmann, from inside the box.  Comets would tie the score at 14 minutes when Severin Breck would score off a beautiful feed from Kristian Maestad, sending the teams into halftime tied.

The Cards came out in the second half blazing and caught the Comets on their heels, scoring four goals.  Graham Peterson scored the go ahead goal just five minutes into the second half, followed by goals from Floris Van Halewijn, Jack Carlson and Kietzman to give the Cardinals a 6-2 advantage with 16 minutes remaining.  Jowell Seymour would add one for the Comets late in the game at 72 minutes, off an assist from Severin Breck.

“The cold wind and rain took its toll on the small Comet Squad,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Rod Jensen.  “The team that gets the most shots on goal wins a contest in conditions like this.  Alex played a great game!”

The Comets end their season with a record of 6-7-1.

Alexandria (8-8-1) will now face Pelican Rapids at 1:00pm Saturday in Pelican Rapids.
