The girls’ soccer season came to end for the Fergus Falls Otters on Thursday as they suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Detroit Lakes Lakers in the Section 8A North Sub-Section playoffs.

At the 38 minute mark of the first half DL crossed the ball into the box and a crashing attacker placed the ball into the left hand side of the goal.

At the 28 minute mark of the second half the Otters worked the ball up the field and Anna Anderson played a beautiful thru ball to Piper Andrews and she pounded it into the top right hand corner of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.  DL answered two minutes later with what became the game winning goal as their right midfielder crossed a ball to a crashing left midfielder and placed it into the net.

“That’s what good teams do, they answer,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “I’m so proud of the girls.  They played so hard and did so many things well today.  It seemed like our chances were just a step away.  Ellie Andersen hit some amazing direct kicks.  Inside the box we crashed the net and the ball just slipped by.  No one can question these girls and the heart they play with.  Our coaching staff is so proud that the girls left it all on the field.  Our lone senior, Kenzy Braeger, gave so much to our program over these past years it is tough to see her days of playing Otter soccer come to an end.  The coaching staff would like to thank our girls for everything they do for our program.  No regrets, girls!”
