The seventh-ranked team in the state in 4A football, Detroit Lakes, paid a visit to Fergus Falls on Thursday night and defeated the Fergus Falls Otters by the score of 55-14.  The Lakers remained unbeaten in seven games and the Otters fell to 3-4.

Max Gunderson ran the ball in from the one yard line early in the game and Zaden Yliniemi booted the extra point kick to give the Lakers a 7-0 lead.  A six yard run by Isaiah Thompson and another PAT kick by Yliniemi made it 14-0.  Gabe Hannninen broke a 38-yard run for the third touchdown of the first quarter and Yliniemi made it 3-for-3 on extra point kicks as the Lakers built a 21-0 lead after one.

In the second quarter Thompson scored on a 22 yard run and Reed Mace hauled in a 34 yard pass from Gunderson.  Both extra point kicks by Yliniemi increased the Lakers lead to 35-0.  Fergus Falls got on the scoreboard when Kaden Hartwell blocked a punt and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown.  Andrew Starzl was successful on the extra point kick.  Yliniemi pushed the lead up to 42-7 on an 86 yard run and another PAT kick.  An 80 yard run by Parker Jacobs and an extra point kick by Starzl put the score at 42-14.  A Gunderson to Mace 37-yard touchdown pass brought the Detroit Lakes lead to 48-14 at the half.

The only score of the third quarter was a seven yard run by Christian Solberg and another PAT kick by Yliniemi to put the final score at 55-14.

"We got beat by a very good team tonight," commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Steve Olson

The Otters will close out their regular season schedule with a road game at Pequot Lakes next Wednesday.
